Overview

Frezza - Cucina De Coccio, tucked away on Via della Frezza in the heart of Rome, offers an authentic Italian dining experience for those seeking genuine flavors beyond the usual tourist circuit. This restaurant blends the charm of a local eatery with a cozy atmosphere that welcomes both casual diners and food enthusiasts.

At the core of Frezza’s menu lie its standout dishes, such as the quintessential Pasta Alla Carbonara, crafted with fresh handmade pasta and a rich, silky sauce that captures Roman culinary tradition. Equally notable is their Tiramisù, a classic Italian dessert that rounds off the meal with just the right balance of sweetness and texture. The menu also highlights seasonal Roman specialties like Carciofo Alla Giudia and Carciofo Alla Romana, artichoke preparations that connect diners to the city’s deep-rooted flavors.

Other notable dishes include Supplì Cacio e Pepe, a creative take on the beloved Roman street snack, and Polpette Al Sugo, hearty meatballs simmered in a rich tomato sauce. Vegetarians may find limited options, but dishes like Cicoria Ripassata offer a fresh, bitter green counterpoint that complements the heartier selections.

Frezza's setting contributes significantly to its appeal. Nestled down a quieter side street near Rome’s busy shopping areas, it provides a respite from loud tourist hubs. The interior is modern yet inviting, packed with locals who appreciate the straightforward elegance of the cuisine and genuine service. This makes Frezza an excellent spot for families, couples, and groups seeking an authentic Roman meal without the tourist-heavy distractions.

Service maintains a clear focus on efficiency and warmth, enhancing the overall experience. While diners might occasionally miss English-speaking staff, the local ambiance enriches the authenticity, making guests feel they have stepped into a neighborhood favorite rather than a tourist trap.

Whether stopping by for an indulgent aperitivo or settling in for a full dinner, Frezza - Cucina De Coccio captures the essence of Roman cuisine with sincerity and flavor. It appeals to anyone eager to explore timeless Italian dishes presented with respect and simplicity, wrapped in the spirit of the city itself.

Last year we visited a delightful restaurant in Rome called Frezza, and it instantly became one of our favorite finds. They served delicious, authentic Italian dishes, including fresh handmade pasta with rich sauces, excellent pizza, and many other tasty options. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting at any time of day, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a great meal. Despite its central location, Frezza felt nothing like a tourist spot; instead, it had the warm, local vibe of a place cherished by those who know where to find real Italian food.

Functional and tasty down a side alley. This place had an overwhelmingly positive feature of an available table which no one else in the area seemed to have at 8pm on A Saturday. Oops. Limited vegetarian options but alternative was no dinner so . Friendly and functional with not a single English voice in the place. Felt like the pizza express for locals: in a good way. Trendier interior than we’ve been used to and jam packed tables with amazing interlinked deli/patisserie next door for dessert which we sadly did not make use of. Did the job and the kids were happy. Wouldn’t rush back but grateful for squeezing us in and getting us fed after a long day.

On a side street to a main shopping street. Good Italian food with a simple but nice atmosphere.
